This is a good app for introducing kids probably between 4-8 to the instruments and their sounds. The story is nice and well animated but short. The app is a nice start but not worth the $3 due to the simplicity of the app. More functionality would make this app better and worth the price.

This looks like such a great book/ap unfortunately several of the pages do not work - no volume on the instruments and no reading the words. My little boy and I were so frustrated and disappointed. Hope they figure out the problems because this would have been a favorite for sure. Very upset to have paid so much for something we cant use.

I love how much info is packed into this wonderful book. My kids thought it was as fun as any game app and they learned a lot about the instruments. Love it!

This is such a wonderful app. Like a childrens book that comes alive, and teaches kids about music. Highly recommended app for everyone, especially those who want to inspire young childrens fascination with music. The app has several features, including "read myself," "read to me," and some educational games. Animations are really cute and the music is superb!

There is so much fun packed in this amazing app for kids. A jazzy day is not only informative but also very engaging. My little nephew loves pinching and rotating the instruments. The adorable kittens with cute voices make the Read to me section more interesting. This is a great app!

Fun and educational....this app is fabulous!

This app is a really fun way for your kids to get to learn the different instruments in a Jazz band. The book is really cute and comes with an option to read the book to your kids yourself or have it read out loud by the app. The story explains the instruments a jazz band is comprised of, what the different functions of each instrument are and how they finally play music together in a really fun and easy to understand manner. The sounds are all first class and will surely inspire your child!

My daughter loves it. Nice work! Great way to introduce your child to jazz and musical instruments in general. Highly recommended.

This game is so unique, different from anything else out there. The kids get a fun introduction to music, which is priceless. My daughter, who is 4, tried it out and really liked the game part because she could guess the instruments and enjoyed it. She has been asking us to enroll her in music classes since we got the game!

Not only as a lover of Jazz, but also as the brother of two musicians and the son of two educators, I feel this App is wonderful for children, parents, and individuals who work with children on many levels. Besides teaching young people the way a Jazz ensemble is constructed and how Jazz musicians utilize improvisation, a skill used in life in all areas, not just the arts, this App encourages children to try something they may have not been exposed to or are not that familiar with. I am also Therapist and the research has proven that music education and education in the arts in other areas (i.e. drawing, storytelling) enhances learning in other subject areas (i.e. Math, Science). The more we expose children to the arts, the more academically successful and creative human beings they will become. I think this App is more that what it appears and its surplus meaning is significant. Thank you for making this piece of art to share with us.

The new release includes a really cool photo booth feature. Its also available in Spanish! Love the hand drawn animations & the live jazz music is great. Really cute voices and fun game to help kids learn to recognize instruments by sight & sound. Favorite quote: "Jazz is a conversation; when one section asks a question, another section will surely answer."

This app is excellent for anyone who wants to introduce their children to jazz music at an early age. An app like this could be fundamental in a childs development, giving them a head start to any formal education. In addition, its quite fun, and a good excuse to involve both the parent and child. There is a story book portion that can either be read by the app itself or read without audio -- a great start to get a child reading and recognizing words. Then, there is a instrument recognition game, which can keep a kid busy for hours. The animation is fantastic, cute, and runs quite smoothly. The sound effects are clear and realistic; and this is coming from a musician.

This app is a lot of fun. There is a nice story about the elements of a large jazz band, as well as lots of other goodies - a "learn the instruments" section, a "find the instrument" game, and a vibraphone you can really play (with your fingers). In addition, when I had trouble with the app, the company wrote back to me twice, within hours. Very impressive! I look forward to more apps from The Melody Book.

WOW, what an app! This app has enlightened my boys 3&5, to the wonderful world of music and the instruments that create the sounds. This app sparked an interest within them that I, as a parent, didnt know was there inside of them. They were both so engaged listening and learning. Their love of animals, especially cats, and all of the interactivity throughout the book kept their interest the entire time. This app really touched on listening skills. They were able to identify the many instrument sounds in the "Play Games" section, which really impressed me! The Learn chapter and the Play Game chapters are a huge plus. They helped with the identity of musical instruments through pictures and sounds. The boys also loved having their photos taken with the cool cats! The narration, animation, navigation and information contained in this app is superb! A BIG thank you to the developers of this ingenious, wonderful, top notch app!

This crashes multiple times on the iPad 1. Very frustrating for my toddler.

This is not just jazz - a great way for kids to learn about musical instruments. Amazing illustrations and music. Highly recommended!

I was extremely excited to share this with my son, particularly because I am a Jazz musician and my son loves music. My one gripe is that the Vibraphone interactivity seems spotty - the other instruments work well, though.

Ill try a few restart/reinstall tricks, but weve experienced a number of crashes so far. I do love the information about jazz instruments and structure that the text provides. Wonder why only the flute has an instrumental sound with it on the learn the instruments section? It would be great if you could hear each instrument played along with its name the way you can in the identification game. Once the crashes get worked out, an overall satisfying purchase.
